Pictured are the first five .308 rounds I reloaded with my RCBS Rock Chucker single stage press. For those thinking about reloading purchase a starter kit with the key components to save money. You'll also save a lot of headaches by not having to look for reloading supplies in today's tight market. The kit I purchased is RCBS's Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit that includes the following items: Single Stage Press, Reloading Scale, Uniflow Powder Measure, Hand Priming Tool, Case Loading Block, Debur Tool, Hex Key Set, Case Lube Kit, Powder Funnel and Reloading Manual. In addition to the kit you need to purchase the following items: caliber specific Die Set, caliper for measuring lengths and diameters; case trimmer (see post on Lee Zip Trimmer) and brass tumbler. Your first item purchased should be a reloading manual that includes reloading instructions and powder data tables. All of the major manufacturers offer a manual for under $40. The manual is going to drive your future cartridge specific purchases like bullets and powder.

If you have any questions, ask any reloader for advice. Everyone is willing to help someone new to the field. As you are shopping start buying primers for both your pistols and rifles when you find them (for example small rifle primers for 5.56/.223 and large rifle primers for .308). Also pick up your expended brass at the range for future reloading. Brass cases accounts for almost two-thirds the cost of ammunition. No need to pick up steel cases.  In today's environment no one should leave brass laying on the ground at the range. Finally, when available start buying bullets and powder specific to the caliber you plan to reload. It is best to have these items onhand when you need them.
